As we prepare Carmagnac for our next guests, who arrive on Wednesday for a three- week stay, our washing machine decided it had other ideas - and failed.

Not exactly part of the plan — but running a five-star holiday property isn’t about pretending that things never go wrong. It’s about what you do when they do.

A replacement washing machine was ordered straight away and is being installed tomorrow, comfortably before our guests arrive.

At Carmagnac, we’re constantly investing in and improving the property. Some of those improvements are things our guests will immediately notice; others happen quietly behind the scenes. Either way, the aim is the same: everything should be ready, working and exactly as it should be when our guests walk through the door.

Appliances eventually fail. Things occasionally break. That’s life.

What matters to us is that when something does go wrong, we deal with it immediately and without hesitation rather than allowing it to become our guests’ problem.

It’s part of what we believe responsible hosting should be: being prepared, paying attention to the details and continually investing in the experience we offer.

By Wednesday, the new washing machine will be installed, Carmagnac will be prepared and our guests should never know there was a problem at all.

And, really, that’s exactly how it should be.
